The endless pursuit of more

Addition through subtraction is the only answer.

The endless pursuit of more
Share:

This entire issue is a short journal entry.

To myself.

From myself.

I thought it would be worth sharing.

Something that I keep coming back to.

Something that I need to always remind myself.

Something that can, hopefully, resonate with you.

You claim that you want more.

You want more time with your wife and parents.

You want more quiet moments to think and play.

You want more freedom to choose how you spend your time.

Yet you deny yourself this in the pursuit of the "other more".

More money. More projects. More engagements.

An endless amount of more distractions.

You're constantly trading one for the other.

And when you do get time to do what matters, you're distracted by the endless calling of the "other more".

And then you wonder why you feel unbalanced.

You're not stupid.

So stop making obvious mistakes.

You have goals, dreams and ambitions.

You're driven, hard-working and productive.

That's all good.

But it's an endless pit of "more".

Getting one will just lead to the next.

You'll walk away from the dinner table still hungry.

Decide when enough is enough.

Decide when you've had your share.

Because it's infinite.

The alternative is finite.

You only have so many more times to play with your dog.

So many more beautiful books you can read.

So many more moments with your parents.

So just say no.

No to people who only drain you.

No to yourself when you find a distraction.

No to opportunities that offer money, respect and glory but steal your freedom.

By subtracting from the one.

You add to the other.

Addition by subtraction.

It's simple math.
